Dont let me be lonely

This book was very different from all the other materials we read in class. I now can understand why you told us in the beginning of the semester we were going to read this book last because its rather depressing. This lyric essay book talked about death, war, health issues and media a lot. I think the beginning of the book is rather sad because first it talks about suicide, calls the number 1-800-suicide and the girl says she feels already dead and is in death' s position. Then the person gets in the ambulance for help on page 7. Then as you read on it talks about this friend will die in five years because she has breast cancer, then finds out from her doctor after her tests that the cancer is in this friends bones and its settled. The way the author describes this( on page 9) is depressing and in good detail to feel bad for this person.
As i read on it get worse and worse with all the health issues and what people have to go through with there illness. On page 17 she talks about a friend developing Alzheimer's disease. He knows he is getting ill and will die soon, he writes on a slate board : this is the most miserable in my life. This really hit me hard because it reminded me of my grandma going through an illness that she didn't deserve and how it was miserable to see her suffer.
Also this book talked about certain types of pills. For example on page 53 she talks about switching medications for depression. And then talks about swallowing a whole bottle of Tylenol and she went into a coma and ended up waking up in the hospital asking if she was alive. the nurse said yes and smiled but then the girl asked why she was smiling like she didn't care about her life and didn't want to live anymore. This book was just depressing to read.

200 word place

Spring break spent at the Bahamas, what a beautiful place to be. The hot sun is just warming every part of my skin, as if I were in a sauna for hours. The sand is burning my feet every time I take a step so I dart towards the ocean to ease the pain. There’s nothing as bitter as swallowing ocean water and the irritation of salt water going into your eyes if you open them. The seagulls are like rats with wings, soaring around in circles looking for food. Those are the most annoying creatures in the summer time, they remind me of my dog at home who never gives up begging. My friend Jamie and I love to Para sail off the coast of the ocean. As we Para sail we feel like were on top of the world. There’s nothing like the smell of the ocean breeze, it’s so distinct. I can hear the sound of the wind going against our bodies as we fly throughout the ocean. The best part of the adventure of Para sailing is if the driver of the boat wants to dunk you in the water or not. The feeling of the hot sun on your skin then getting dunked in the iceberg water is quite a chill.

Rodrigo Toscano

When i first stepped in the dreamland theater i didn't expect it to be as small as it was. Unfortunately I was in the back of the room by the door and couldn't hear much, especially all the noise coming from outside the door since it was open. So the first act i couldn't really hear but i did notice alot of repetition of words, like we read in class last Monday. The words they repeated in this particular performance was scrolling, pointing, selecting and clicking. Throughout the readings they said these four words continuously. Also some of the words they used in the reading i couldn't understand or didn't know what they meant.

The second performance was rather interesting and more fun to watch because they were acting it out. This was not as boring as the others because it had some humor in it. I was kinda confused what the big prop was, it looked like at tree. Also at the end how they stood up Toscano and then he said "does anybody here have a sense of development of book speak", I'm not sure why he said that with a fork and knife in his hand?

The last performance was very familiar because we read and listened to the reading in class. The reading was Balm to Bilk. I would have to say that first reading it to myself compared to the tape was very different and i interpret it different with the pauses and tone of voice. Now the difference between the tape and seeing it in person was also different i thought. The difference is actually seeing the people and how they expressed themselves with facial expressions and their tone of voice made it more fun to watch since I'm a visual person anyways. I also thought it had some humor in it when she kept on saying the word bilk, because she made it up.

I enjoyed my trip to Dreamland theater its just a shame that i couldn't really hear with all the commotion outside, people talking and the distance from Toscano and me. I thought they should of used microphones, that's just my opinion for next time.

Dialogue between two characters

John: yes, this should be a change for me. For the best!
Jake: Well its a great atmosphere to be in, that's for sure, you'll be known all around campus.
John: hahaha, I'm just hoping this will keep me away from trouble and be done with the past.
Jake: Is that so, well now you are a part of our "family", the team is everything you need to stay out of trouble!
John: that's what I'm hoping
Jake: well enough small talk lets do some bench presses, we need to beat the Spartans next week.
John: hahaha lets

Bhanu Kapil Readings

When I attended Bhanu Kapil's reading event i first thought it was going to be boring to listen to her read out loud. It wasn't bad at all! She read some of her readings out of the book called humanimal with a confident tone to the audience. The book was about two girls found living with wolves in the Bengal Jungle. Her voice was clear and her readings were rather detailed and vivid. Her readings contained imagery because i could see what she was talking about in my head very clearly.
She used a lot of colors in her readings and red came up more frequently, maybe it stood for blood since there was a lot of blood involved. As for the other colors she was describing the jungle. Also i noticed a lot of horrific language describing certain situations the girls went through. For example " the next day i woke up to a raw throat, the cook gave me some salt and warm water. I waited until she was gone then i bit it, I bit my own arm and i ate it. Here is my belly frosted with meat, hear are my eyes bubbling in a tin. This was made me cringe because the words are so descriptive i could see it in my mind when Kapil read this part out loud. I love how she uses concrete detail and uses her imagery. Overall i enjoyed attending this event.
