Yedda Morrison: word is football

After school on a sunny day the neighbor hood kids come out to Barchester Park and play football. I am one of those kids who raced out the door after eating a snack to play a game of ball. I always make sure I bring my water bottle and dress in sweats, or any clothes I don’t care to get grass stains on. I am the only girl who is playing on the field, which didn’t bother me at all. I told the boys to two hand touch me instead of tackle. Everyone knew everyone in the neighborhood it’s like a big ol’ family. They say I play good for a girl and I am never last to get chosen on a team, which makes me happy.

As we all know girls cant join and play tackle football for the high school. I think it’s a sexist sport. Many women out there enjoy watching football but that’s all they can do. If there is a way to let women play professional football I think I would be quite entertaining than men. For example, I know many men that think women’s basketball is more enjoyable to watch then the NBA. I don’t think it would be wise to let the boys play with the girls, but I do think girls should verse the girls in football games.

Football is a popular sport that everyone plays where I live. Kids choose football over any other sport. Every Friday in the fall semester at my old high school they have football games. The stands are full of students and parents it is ridiculous. The cheerleaders are smiling and cheering proud for the Wild Cats. My friends and I are screaming on the top of our lungs rooting for our school too, drinking hot chocolate from the stands because it is so cold. There is nothing better than watching high school football and mingling with friends on a Friday night.

At my old high school they just start playing tackle football called power puff. This game is tackle football for girls against the Plymouth Canton Educational Park. There is three schools in one park so they play against each other. They do not have any protection like helmets or shoulder guards when they play. A lot has changed when I left and it makes me wonder if years later they will start a tackle football for girls.

I know when it’s a Sunday when my mom is curled up on the couch watching football in the afternoon, checking up on her football picks. Football reminds me of the fall action of October through November. The temperature is decreasing slowly while the leaves fall off the trees. I am the one who has to rake up all the leaves which is a pain that I never look forward in doing. There is a distinct smell of fall that I love and it reminds me of the beginning of the school year and how long I have to wait for summer to come back.
